In October 2025, the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) held a Scientific and Technological Achievement Appraisal Meeting in Yangzhou. The "Key Green Preparation Technology for High-Strength/High-Modulus Para-Aramid (PPTA) Fibers", jointly developed by Sinochem High-Performance Fiber Materials Co., Ltd. and Donghua University, was recognized as reaching the internationally advanced level — marking that China's first 5000-ton high-strength/high-modulus PPTA fiber production line has officially entered the phase of industrial operation.
As a key strategic material with both military and economic value, PPTA fibers have long been monopolized by enterprises from the United States and Japan. DuPont (U.S.) and Teijin (Japan) once accounted for 75% of the global production capacity. Previously, domestic PPTA products suffered from issues such as unstable batch quality and small production scale, making it difficult to meet high-end demands. This breakthrough has filled the domestic technological gap: through core technologies including low-temperature solution polycondensation, high-efficiency dissolution, and liquid crystal spinning, the high-modulus 1500D product has an initial modulus of 837 cN/dtex, while the high-strength 1000D product has a breaking strength of 24 cN/dtex. Additionally, the recycling of calcium chloride has been realized, achieving both environmental friendliness and high efficiency.
At present, this production line has been stably supplying fields such as ballistic protection, the automotive industry, and industrial equipment. Its cooperative customers include military units and leading enterprises such as Jiangsu Hengtong and Shenzhen Changfei. This signifies that China's high-end aramid industry has officially broken its dependence on overseas supplies and stepped into a new phase of international competition.
